Where are all the Female Directors? May 21, 2007

Posted by Winter in film, race matters.

Jane Campion is calling for more recognition and money for female film directors. I second that, but with the proviso that we don’t end up “recognising” and funding only white middle-class female directors.

The FWord has some more on this story, where I notice that the only three women who have ever been nominated for the Palm D’or are all white: Jane Campion, Lina Wertmuller and, of course, Sophia Coppola.
