Asylum Seekers and Refugees targeted in racist attacks March 5, 2007

Racist gangs are targeting asylum seekers and refugees in the UK. This story comes from Glasgow, but from what I can gather from the article, this sort of thing is on the rise and is being organised over the internet. We need to get wise to it. Asylum seekers and refugees are some of the most vulnerable groups in this country and are especially subject to scapegoating. These attacks exist at the extreme end of a continuum of racist anti-asylum seeker and anti-refugee attitudes.

The racist groups mentioned are only more “extreme” than the press and a large amount of the general public in that they act on their beliefs.

I agree absolutely. These people are having their propensity for racist violence implicitly condoned on a lot of levels at the moment.
